Our Team's Purpose!
We, Alka, Ben, and Madelyn, wanted to explore the experiences of Somali refugees in the United States and how it connects to elements of intercultural communication to supplement our learning from CMME-3100.

We created a podcast series, “Latte Talks,” to highlight some real-world examples of what Somali refugees face in the states. We also compiled research to take you through the Somali experience via an intercultural communication lens on this website.
Meet the Team!

Alka Narayana
Hi, I am Alka, and I am one of the co-researchers and writers for our website's podcast, timeline, and Somali experience sections. I grew up in an Indian immigrant household family, so I witnessed how vital intercultural competence is to the adaptation process of families. We can do so much more to learn to grow our skills to better support immigrant communities in the U.S rather than isolate them.

Benjamin Weaver
Hi, I'm Ben and I am the research assistant, episode consultant, and producer for our Latte Talks Podcast. Having been raised by a mother who immigrated to the U.S. from Venezuela at age 16, I've grown up straddling two cultural spheres, making me specifically interested in the sociopolitical and cross-cultural implications of immigrants' lives in America.
